In 2011, Lena Kravets and Tobias Kassung established their duo in the Kölner Klassik Ensemble. With the rare combination of cello and guitar, they develop very individual programmes and delight audiences in numerous concerts across Germany. Their programme "La lumière du sud - the light of the south" is dedicated above all to the masters of French music.
The vastness of the French coast, the high, blue sky and the special light have always inspired French artists to create special works of art. In music, too, lightness merges with southern flair and the French way of life.
The Folias Variations by the great 17th century Parisian viola da gamba player Marin Marais form the introduction to a programme dedicated to the impressionist music of Fauré and Debussy as well as to the contemporary Parisian composer Mathias Duplessy. Music that combines flamenco elements, Brazilian bossa nova and French lightness with ravishing energy. With the "Capriccio à la lumière du sud" - a homage to the tango and the light of the south - Tobias Kassung has also written his own piece that musically encapsulates this rousing programme.
Programme:
Marin Marais: Variations sur les Folies d‘Espagne;
Tobias Kassung: Capriccio à la lumière du sud, op. 16;
Gabriel Fauré: Après un rêve;
Claude Debussy: Claire de lune;
Mathias Duplessy: Sonate pour guitar et violoncelle en quatre rêves
