„Il Cinema“
The duo of Italian guitarist Luciano Marziali and German guitarist Tobias Kassung is one of the great insider tips in the classical music scene. Both musicians have been at home on the international stage as soloists and chamber musicians for many years and know each other from their time studying together at the Cologne Musikhochschule. In 2009, the two exceptional guitarists established their duo within the Cologne Classical Ensemble with the aim of presenting unusual and genre-spanning programmes for two guitars.
Since the founding of their guitar duo, the focus has been on film music by famous Italian composers. Names such as Nino Rota or Ennio Morricone stand for unique cinema music that is masterfully arranged and staged by Kassung & Marziali. They utilise all the possibilities of the guitar duo and conjure up their own orchestra with countless sound effects. At the chamber concerts, they combine this music with suites by John Dowland and George Frideric Handel as well as the enchanting new piece by Parisian composer Mathias Duplessy.
Programme:
John Dowland (1563-1626): Pieces for two guitars
Mathias Duplessy (*1972): La Danse de Sentiments
Georg Friedrich Händel (1685-1759): Suite in g-Moll, HWV 432
Nino Rota (1911–1979): The Godfather Suite
Tobias Kassung (*1977): Sieben Konzertetüden, op. 17
Ennio Morricone (* 1928): Cinema paradiso - The good, the bad and the ugly
