With an extraordinary programme and breathtaking virtuosity, the Astor Trio combines the styles of baroque, classical, tango and Spanish music. The prominent line-up within the Cologne Classical Ensemble has played its way into the elite of German chamber music and also performs in special programmes with cellist Lena Kravets. This was also the case in this concert, which focused on the 250th anniversary of François de Fossa.
In addition, the piece “Parmi le vent” by the Parisian composer Mathias Duplessy was performed in Germany for the first time. As part of the © NRW programme, Tobias Kassung’s “Buenos Aires Fantasie II” was also performed; a work originally written for a trio featuring a double bass, it was now heard for the first time in a version for a trio with cello.
The audience was delighted by the trio’s extraordinary, highly virtuosic and musical performance. The enormous variety and breadth of the repertoire – ranging from Baroque and Classical music to modern works with tango elements and highly virtuosic Impressionism – was particularly praised.
