The latest album by Lena Kravets & Tobias Kassung was released in autumn 2023: "La lumière du sud - the light of the south". It is dedicated entirely to the masters of French music. The vastness of the French coast, the high, blue sky and the special light have always inspired French artists to create special works of art. In music too, lightness merges with southern flair and the French way of life.
La lumière du sud - the light of the south portrays this search for light, colour and sound in three great periods of French music: le Grand Siécle - the great age of Baroque music at the court of Versailles. At its centre are the composers Rameau, Lully and Couperin, but also the gambist Marin Marais, whose variation work Les folies d'Espagne we have recorded here. La Belle Époque - the great era of European art, the French Impressionists, their paintings and their music are unique and form our second stop. With works by Claude Debussy and Gabriel Fauré, we present two of the composers of this period and some of their most beautiful pieces such as Clair de Lune and Après un Rêve. And finally, with Mathias Duplessy on this album, we present the music of an incredibly exciting and vibrant contemporary Parisian music scene. Combined with the Capriccio à la lumière du sud by Tobias Kassung - a homage to the tango and the south.
The album is available for streaming or download from all major online providers.
