As one of the leading saxophone quartets on the scene, the Eternum Quartet performs to enthusiastic audiences across Germany in major venues such as the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Kölner Philharmonie and the Residenz in Munich.
In the Humboldt-Saal, the quartet performed Guillermo Lago’s well-known suite ‘Ciudades’. Alongside Cologne, five other major cities are portrayed in a uniquely musical way.
The programme also featured Jean-Baptiste Singelée’s *Premiere Quatuor*, Op. 53, arguably one of the most significant original works for saxophone quartet from this period, as well as works by Eugène Bozza and Thierry Escaich. As part of our *Schwerpunkte © NRW* series, the quartet also performed a work by Helena Cánovas i Parés. The Cologne-based composer had studied at the Cologne University of Music, among other places, and wrote her piece for the Eternum Saxophone Quartet.
As a tribute to the 150th anniversary of Maurice Ravel, the quartet opened its concert with ‘Trois beaux oiseaux du Paradis’ by Maurice Ravel, in an arrangement by Nevena Pejčić.
The Eternum Saxophone Quartet shone with truly impressive ensemble playing, great musicality, remarkable virtuosity and astute interpretation.
