AACHEN: New Year's concert

Ballsaal, Altes Kurhaus Aachen, Komphausbadstraße 19, 52062 Aachen

The Cologne Classical Ensemble and LOGOI – Institut für Philosophie und Diskurs, invite to a festive New Year's concert in the ballroom of the Altes Kurhaus in Aachen. The Astor Trio with Alexander Prushinskiy (violin), Lena Kravets (violoncello) and Tobias Kassung (guitar) will perform; as well as special guest the Italian master guitarist Luciano Marziali. A festive start to the new year with wonderful, rousing classical music. The programme spans a wide range with festive baroque music by Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Friedrich Händel, rousing tango compositions by Astor Piazzolla and Tobias Kassung, famous Broadway melodies from George Gershwin's "Porgy & Bess", virtuoso violin artistry by Pablo de Sarasate and, finally, gripping film music by Ennio Morricone.

The three musicians of the Astor Trio have achieved the rare feat of establishing a completely new and unusual chamber music instrumentation in classical music, thereby delighting audiences and critics alike. The Astor Trio brings together violin, guitar and double bass or violoncello. Alexander Prushinskiy, violinist and first concertmaster of the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra, has joined forces with guitarist Tobias Kassung and the solo bassist of the WDR Symphony Orchestra Stanislav Anischenko and solo cellist Lena Kravets to form this rare combination.
With these extraordinary programmes, the Astor Trio playfully combines styles between classical, jazz and world music, thus opening up new horizons for classical music.  In Aachen, Luciano Marziali will also be performing the famous western classic "The Good, the Bad, the Ugly" and the film music from "The Third Man" as a preview for the next concert later in the year.
